Phortse Welcome!

Welcome, to the Phortse Community Project website.

As you read this life is going on in a remote mountain village in Nepal. Nestling high in the foothills of Everest lies the village of Phortse; a community of Sherpa's working together to develop their village.

This site is dedicated to the ongoing community project work in the village and the people of Phortse with whom we have become close friends.

In 1989 whilst on a pre trek to climb Mount Mera I visited the village of Phortse. I immediately fell in love with the village and its people. I felt the village was so poor, lacking the basic amenities had by other villages in the Khumbu, that I had to come back and do what I could to help the community. The following year in 1990 I formed the "Phortse Community Project".

Please take the time to have a look around the site. If you would like to know more, or get involved then please contact me at my address, I would love to hear from you.

Yours, 'Papa' Tony Freake.

Sadly Papa Tony passed away on Sunday December 27th 2009 after a courageous battle against cancer. Please read the news section for more details. Please continue to visit this website as updates will follow at a later date.
