Location World

Nepal is located on the southern edge of the Himalayas sandwiched between India and the Tibetan high plateau with the vast mass of China beyond. Nepal is a Democratic country with a population of approximately 20 million. Nepal is the only Hindi kingdom in the world, however there is a complex blending of Hinduism and Buddhism. Hindu temples and Buddhist shrines are scattered all over the mountains and valleys with mountainous regions being predominately Bhudist.

Location in Nepal

Phortse is a small village in the Solu Khumbu region of Nepal a national park in the high Himalayas. This areas is well known as it also encompasses Everest the highest mountain in the world (8848 m).

Phortse lies near to the top of the Solu Khumbu only 15 miles from Everest and the route to Phortse travels along the same route as that for Everest base camp.

It is a four day trek to Phortse from the nearest airstrip at Lukla including an acclimatisation day in Namche Bazar the regional administration centre. The porters can do this trip unloaded in a single day. There are no roads in the Solu Khumbu (The nearest road is 2 weeks south of Lukla airstrip) and so all things must come in by foot, pack animal or air.

The route follows the Dudh Kosi river through Phakding, Monza, and Namche Bazar crossing the 4000 m Mong La pass before arriving in Phortse at 3800 m.
